Developing Your Telemedicine Program

Clinical tools and resources to get you started.

Want to know how telemedicine can help your organization reach its goals? You’ve come to the right place! OTN works with healthcare organizations across Ontario to rethink the way health care is delivered. Together, we’ve developed telemedicine programs within existing models of care that leverage OTN’s virtual care solutions to better the care for patients and support more efficient healthcare practices for providers.

To help you champion a telemedicine program within your organization, we’ve designed some practical tools and resources to get you started. These tools will help you:

  • determine how telemedicine can help you achieve your organization’s goals,
  • assess your organization’s readiness to incorporate telemedicine,
  • learn how other organizations have benefited from telemedicine, and
  • create a business case for securing stakeholder support for your virtually-enabled clinical process and protocols.

Let’s see how telemedicine can work for you.

Telemedicine’s benefits extend well beyond a physician’s office. Organizations are using OTN’s solutions to increase collaboration between healthcare professionals and improve access to care for patients in their region. These are only a few of many reasons to adopt telemedicine. Whether you’re a large hospital or small community organization, we can help you integrate virtual care in a way that meets your goals. First, let’s identify some common priorities among healthcare organizations and learn how telemedicine can help.

Is your site ready?

Complete the site readiness checklist to determine if your site is ready to provide clinical telemedicine services. You may also use the checklist to identify gaps in an existing program. The checklist is based on best practices identified by OTN in accordance with the Accreditation Canada Telehealth standards, the National Initiative for Telehealth Framework of Guidelines, (NIFTE), and the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) guidelines.

Let’s see if you’re ready…

What do I need to get started?

Luckily, you are not the first to develop a telemedicine program! There are many programs already developed by organizations in partnership with OTN. These programs are supported by enabling policies, best practices and clinical protocols. Here are some examples to help you get started.
